ELA consists of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Viewing and Representing.
The class will have lots of activities which will help them achieve their ELA outcomes. We have started working on handwriting so that by the end of Grade 4 they feel comfortable handwriting at all times.
We work on a new set of spelling words each week. At the beginning of the week the students have a pretest to be introduced to the new words. Then they complete questions related to their new words throughout the week. At the end of the week they are tested on the words. As a bonus, if the students get all the words correct on the pretest then they don't have to write the test and they are called Super Spellers for that week.
The students read a variety of text everyday, from fiction to nonfiction, directions, rules, for pleasure and for information. The students will be read to everyday from a classroom novel.
The students write everyday in all subjects. They write point-form, complete sentences, paragraphs, and stories. Their work may be edited by themselves, peers or the teacher.
