Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year. Twenty-three students will attend grade one in Room 19 in the K-6 wing of Melita School.

Grade One is the home of the following special events:  
Open House - Held in September

Grade One students participate in the yearly Terry Fox School Run.

"Pilgrim Lunch" - A Thanksgiving Celebration

Remembrance Day service participation - Students recite a poem or sing a song at the school's Remembrance Day service.

"Alphabet Party"  - A party to celebrate learning all the letters in the alphabet.

Students participate in the Christmas Concert.

"The Unbirthday Party"  - A  Celebration of students' birthdays in  grade one.  This party is held in June.

Grade One celebrates Valentine's Day with a "Friendship Party".

February 15 is National Flag day.

Grade One participates in daily "I Love to Read " activities as well as the school planned activities in the month of February.

Students will participate in a Wellness Fair.

A theme story day is planned for March.  In the past it has been "Peter Rabbit" Day.

Author celebrations are popular in grade one. Last year, "A Pigeon Party" celebrated Mo Willem's books.

Students pair up with an older student to "buddy read".

Students celebrate the 100th day of school.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated at the "Leprechaun Lunch".

Students will celebrate Earth Day on April 20, 2008.

Grade one students usually travel to Brandon for a year end field trip.
