Western Manitoba Youth Choir

October 17, 2009 ñ 7:30 p.m.
$5.00 for adults
$1.00 for students
Children under 5 free

Attention Grade 12 Parents and Guardians:
We will be holding a meeting on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 12 ñ 14.  This meeting is to discuss graduation requirements and to give you information leading up to graduation.

Bus Safety Week starts next Monday, November 19th and runs through until Thursday, October 22nd.  We realize that everyday is Bus Safety but this week gives us an opportunity to recognize the outstanding job that our drivers do at Souris School.  We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of drivers.  Our regular drivers are:
Don Doherty, John Donogh, Norm Gruhn
Diane May, Sean Murphy, Cliff Pomeroy
Brett Roberts, Albert Swaenepoel
Dave Swaenepoel, Richard Willman
Delbert Winters  Our Spare Drivers:
Val Anderson, Keven Bowie, Wayne Boyce
Traci Ealing-Lobb, Karen Kennedy
Garry Reid, Ed Vinck

If you see one of these drivers over the next few days or weeks, thank them for the job they do for us at Souris School.

TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY
On Wednesday, November 4th, our Grade 9 students will be heading to work.  This one day, province-wide, annual event provides students with an opportunity to try an interesting career.

As with previous years, every student must complete and return the Workerís Compensation registration form by Thursday, October 22nd.  Their completed registration forms will then be given to Mr. Adams, so he can forward them to Manitoba Education,
Citizenship and Youth on October 23rd.  Students will not be able to participate in this province-wide initiative unless all documentation has been completed, returned, and filed.

In addition to the above documentation, every student should have attended one of the two 1 hour SAFE Work information sessions provided on October 14th.

We hope every student has a memorable and safe experience.

Student Fees
Student fees were due by the end of September.  We realize it is an expensive time of year and we want you to know that fees can be paid in installments.  We have implemented a new policy this year where students will be exempt from extra curricular activities and field trips until partial payment and arrangement for full payment has been made.  A letter to remind parents who have not yet paid their fees will be sent out shortly.

Please, if your son/daughter is ill, please keep them at home.  With the threat of H1N1 it is very important that ill students not be in class.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

If you have a school or community event, please email to sourisevents@gmail.com.  This will automatically get it on the Community calendar at the Town of Souris website.  This is a great opportunity to get your event advertised.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me directly at 483-6230. Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday.
        ïMr. Bob Young

SOURIS SCHOOL HEALTH POLICY
The following is part of the Souris School Health Policy.

On September 9th, 2009, Bill 2 (The Public Schools Amendment Act [Trans Fat and Nutrition]) was proclaimed and brings into effect legislation passed in June 2008 which requires that every school have a written food and nutrition policy, and that foods prepared, sold or distributed in schools not exceed prescribed artificial trans fat content levels.

Under this legislation, school boards must ensure the artificial trans fat content of food prepared by a school, as well as the foods it sells or distributes to students, does not exceed specified amounts.

Exceptions would be made for studentís lunches brought from home, and special occasions such as school bake sales, hot dog days or pizza lunches if the food items are not available in the school every day.

COATS FOR KIDS
If you have gently used coats or ski-pants that you do not need anymore, you can drop them off in the collection box at the main office at Souris School.  We appreciate your donation.
        ïAllison Brigden

BOTTLE DRIVE
On Monday, October 19th, the Souris graduating class is planning a town wide bottle collection.  This will start at 6:00 p.m..  Thank you in advance for your donation.
