RATS!
The grade 4/5 concert was held Thursday, April 29th.  The name of this year's performance was ìRatsî!  The students had a great time as they sang, danced and acted their way through two performances.   The first show of the day was before a crowd of their peers as they entertained the classes from K-8.  This first audience showed their appreciation for the performers efforts and then it was on to the big show in the evening.  A record large turnout showed up and spurred the student performers on to a most impressive performance that resulted in an enthusiastic standing ovation.  The following Monday the students took the show on the road as they performed twice.  First they put on a show for the residents at the Personal Care Home and then it was on to Victoria Park Lodge.  Both sets of residents were warmly appreciative.  After each show the students and the residents shook hands and the students enjoyed the many compliments passed their way by the seniors.  The students had a great time putting on ìRats!î, making lifetime memories along the way.

NOTES FROM MRS. MCCONNELL

The Grade 7 Solo Night is set for Monday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room.  Parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents are invited to come out and hear the solos, duets and trios that the students have prepared.

Thank You
A very special Thank You goes out to three of our students who shared their music with the residents at The Personal Care Home on their ëday offí from school on Friday April 30th.  Caitlin Bossert and Juanita Avila both performed piano solos and Breanne Driedger performed a Flute solo.  Thank you girls ñ you brightened up the residentís day with your performances.

PCH/VPL
Mr. Wallmann and Ms. OíBrienís classes went to The Personal Care Home and Victoria Park Lodge on Monday, May 3rd to sing their songs from their musical ìRatsî one last time.

Your songs and costumes brought many smiles to the Seniors' faces that morning.  Thank you for doing a great job again.

Deloraine Festival
Kyla Harding and Grant Jackson were both invited to The Deloraine Hi-Lites Concert on Sunday, May 2nd to perform their winning solos.  Kyla received top marks and was awarded two scholarships in the 14 years and under vocal category.  Grant was awarded the top marks for his solo in the vocal 12 years and under.  Congratulations to both of you for your great accomplishment at Festival this year.

Celebrating Music
For quite a few years now, The Minister of Education has designated April as ìMusic Monthî, encouraging schools to showcase and celebrate Music-making.  April seemed to be a very busy month in our school so Souris School will be celebrating Music on Friday, May 28th in the afternoon for K-6 classes and some invited performers.  This event will be informal but informative ñ showing you some things that we do in our Music classes.  So mark your calendar ñ Friday, May 28th ñ and come and help us celebrate MUSIC.  All proceeds will go to our acoustic panel project for the gym.

GREEN WEEK
The Town Beautification Committee will be hosting a Green Week in May with various activities. Green week begins on Saturday, May  8th at 9:30 a.m. at the cookhouse in the campground. Here, we'll start our spring clean up. Participants will be assigned an area around town where they can pick up litter. At 11:30  a.m. everyone will meet back at the cookhouse for a BBQ. Anyone and everyone are invited to participate in the spring clean up. Kids, ask your parents to go and help because after all, you are the ones who will inherit this town: After the clean-up and all week long the TBC will be airing environmental specials on the access channel. On Saturday, May 15th (garage sale day)í the TBC will be selling big black composters really cheap. We'll have our stand set up in the parking lot across from the Bigway. Composting is a great way to reduce household garbage and turn yucky food leftovers into great soil for your garden. Compost helps plants grow big and strong and delivers vital micronutrients back into the earth.~

Hope to see lots of people out for our first Green Week because looking after the environment is everyone's responsibility.
