CAREER EXPLORATION NEWS
February is almost over. All second semester
courses are now into their third week. Any course
changes require a permission form since the
deadline to change has passed.
On Tuesday, March 8 at 9:00 a.m., Olds College
will be here to speak to interested students. A sign
up sheet for this presentation is posted at the
Career Center.
On Tuesday, March 9, the Grades 10, 11, and 12
will be attending the Brandon Career Symposium.
Students will have the chance to explore potential
career and job opportunities. It is predicted that
Canada is on a verge of experiencing a workforce
shortage and will need workers who can respond
and adapt to change. In order to meet these
demands, career development and planning helps
connect school learning with the workplace and
labour markets. The more informed the students
are the greater chance for success. On Monday,
Feb. 22, permission forms will be sent home.
These forms must be returned to the school no
later than Monday, March 8.
There are many scholarships available to the Grade
12 students right now. Now is the time to be
submitting your applications. Please see me for
further information.

A performance by Acadian Duo Chuck and Albert
always promises high-energy comedy, dancing,
singing, and a playful attitudeÖ
Fresh from performances in Vancouver where the
Olympic Games are currently in full swing, Canadian
Comedy Award and East Coast Music Award nominees,
Chuck & Albert are coming to Souris next Sunday. These
two are no strangers to the art of total entertainment.
Multi-instrumentalists, great physical comics, and fluently
bilingual, this Acadian duo has played to standing
ovations both at home, across Canada and overseas.
Their performances bring to life an energetic blend of
visual humor and quick wit combined with the upbeat
foot-stomping music and dance of their indigenous PEI
Acadian roots.
As members of the Acadian group Baranchois, a
mainstay on the Folk/Roots touring circuit for nearly a
decade, Chuck and Albert Arsenault developed a
distinctive brand of traditional Acadian music and
showmanship, performing over 2000 shows. Their music
was considered to be the forefront of the genre and was
a rhythmic, high-voltage style born in the heart of a
culture kept alive through over two centuries on Prince
Edward Island.
Chuck & Albert have been performing together as a duo
since 2004, taking music from the Acadian repertoire,
adapting it for two performers, and then adding new
material that suits their strengths. The material they
present is learned from local singers, fiddlers and
historians; as well as original instrumental and vocal
compositions in the traditional style. Their comedy finds
its inspiration in the day-to-day collective experiences of
their Acadian heritage.
Souris District Arts Council invites everyone of all ages to
join them at the Community Hall on Sunday, February
28th at 2:30 p.m. for an afternoon of sheer enjoyment as
we welcome this talented duo from Prince Edward Island.
This should be an afternoon to lighten your spirits and
get your toes a-tapping! Tickets for this performance are
available at Plaza Petals or from Heather at Souris
Medical Associates. Adult tickets: early bird - $16, at the
door - $20; students - $10; family - $35, pre-schoolers
ñ free.
