NEWS FROM THE OFFICE
We, as the Souris School Administration
Team, would like to thank our Parent Advisory
Council for organizing the information meeting
held on Tuesday evening.  Your dedication to
our children, school and community is greatly
appreciated.  To our School Board, thank-you
very much for attending the meeting.   The
support we received from you makes Souris
School a great place to be.  To all parents,
community members and concerned citizens
that attended the meeting, we hope you left
the meeting with the information that you
were hoping to gain.

Just a few reminders about School Closure
procedures.  A combination of temperature
and wind that equals -46O will result in school
closure.  Storm conditions that result in
highways being closed will result in school
closures.  If Souris School closes for any of
these reasons, an announcement will be made
on the following radio stations ñ CJRB, CKLQ,
94.7, 96.1, 101 The Farm.  Also, our School
Website will have an announcement posted.
All of these announcements will be done by
7:00 a.m.  If a storm comes in during the
school day and buses are not running, we will
be using Storm billets.  It is the responsibility
of parents/guardians to make arrangements
for storm billets.  The school will notify bus
parents/guardians if we go to this procedure.
Please ensure the school of all your contact
numbers so that you can be reached.

Congratulations to our Graduating Volleyball
players who attended the Graduating All-Star
game in Winnipeg last Saturday.  Twenty-four
players from across the province in A, AA,
AAA schools were selected by a committee to
play in this game.  It is quite an honour to be
selected.  This year we had seven players
selected to participate in the game.  Delaney
Husband Shandie Parobec, Brynna Walker and
Alyssa Warnett were selected to the girlsí
game.  Sean Morrison, Luke Hill and Brett
Young were selected to participate in the
boysí game.  Honourable Mention went to Troy
Chandler.

Also, Mrs. Rhonda Young and Mr. Mike Kindle
were selected as the top coaches in AA
schools and were asked to coach at the
Graduating All-Star Game.  This is a great
achievement for Souris School to be so
recognized in High School sports.
Congratulations to all involved.

As always, if you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to call me directly
at 483-6230.  Enjoy your weekend and we will
see you on Monday.
 ïMr. Bob Young

brought forth would be addressed in a written
report which will be sent to all homes in the
schoolís catchment area.

MIDDLE YEARS NEWS
Our jellybean jar is full!!!  For those of you
who have traveled down our middle years
hallway, you may have noticed a very large jar
in Mrs. Rolfeís office window that was filling
up with jellybeans.  Our jar is now full to the
top and overflowing!  Each jellybean in our jar
is representative of an act of kindness that
our middle years students have given to
another student, staff member, or member of
our community.  And there are definitely over
a thousand jellybeans in that jar!!  We are so
very proud of our middle years students and
the kind gestures, thoughtful acts, and
random acts of kindness that they engage in
on a daily basis.  We will be celebrating our
accomplishment in the upcoming days with fun
activities that the students themselves has
chosen.  We have always known that we have
fantastic students in our school, and our
middle years students have proven this to be
true!!

On Friday, December 18th, our Middle Yearís

BAND NEWS
Congratulations to all the band students for a
job well done on a wonderful performance at
our recent concert.  Thank you as well to all of
the volunteers for the Bothwell cheese
fundraiser.

Now that our first performance is completed,
bands are getting ready for major upcoming
events.

Grade 8 and 9
Please note that a memo went home to parents
for those students who are attending the
Winnipeg Optimist Festival that will be held
during February 24th and 25th.  Students
attending are required to submit a security
deposit of $35.00 as soon as possible to
secure their spot on the trip.  Please make
cheques payable to Souris School and hand
these into Mr. Cwir.  A final balance will be
determined after it is confirmed how many
students are attending, based on their
deposit.  Band Boosters have once again helped
subsidize the trip to make it more affordable.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band students will be attending the
Brandon Jazz Festival on Thursday, March
18th.  As tickets for concerts go very fast,
students are asked to submit an initial
payment of $20.00 in order for them to
secure a ticket for the event.  Students are
asked to submit this payment by Friday,
December 18th, so that tickets can be
ordered.  Please make cheques payable to
Souris School and hand these into Mr. Cwir.
Again, a final balance will be made available
when it is determined how many students are
attending.

Senior Band
The Senior Band is focusing on getting their
next playing test completed before the
holiday break.  The senior band will be going on
tour May 26-28 in Southern Manitoba.

Students who are interested in auditioning for
the Manitoba Junior and Intermediate Honour
Bands are encouraged to talk to Mr. Cwir.
Contrary to the Westman Honour Band, where
students are selected based largely on
referrals, demand, and/or a desire to attend,
the Manitoba Honour Bands are solely based
on the auditions made by students.  Audition
deadlines for both Honour Bands is early
March, 2010.

May you and yours have a Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Year!
