Pierson School says NO to Bullying
The majority of our students and staff at Pierson School wore pink attire on Wednesday, April 11th to show that we are taking a stand against bullying.
Pierson School First Annual Gym Blast
On Thursday February 23rd, Miss Wild and her Grade 9/10 class put on our very first Gym Blast, and what a Blast it was!!! The entire staff & student body was split into four groups. There were “The Smurfs”, “The Saber Tooth’s”, “Black Magic” and The Red Rhino’s”.
We all competed in a wide variety of events to earn points for our team. There were fear factor challenges, three legged races, a four way tug-o-war, and many other fun-filled activities. The Gym was buzzing with excitement, and everyone had a great time.
I would like to thank all student’s and staff that took part in the Gym Blast! We demonstrated what great school spirit Pierson has.
Congratulations to the Blue Team for completing the challenges with the most points. An extra special thanks to the Grade 9 and 10’s, your involvement and leadership qualities are an asset to our school.
Pierson School Making a Difference
In the past, Pierson School has taken an active role in helping others who are less fortunate and fundraising for a cause. We have taken part in movements such as the 30 Hour Famine, the Vow of Silence, Jump Rope for Heart, the Terry Fox Run, Hats & Hoodies for Haiti, Christmas Cheer Board and Because I am a Girl...just to name a few. Because of the support from our community we have always been very successful in our fundraising efforts. One cannot describe the feeling we get from making a difference in the lives of others, except that we know it is a good feeling.
A group of staff and students have decided to take this feeling to the next level. We have formed a Social Justice Group at Pierson School, and we have partnered up with Free the Children to become a “We School In Action”. Basically this just means that we are going to help out on a larger scale. Together as a group we need to take part in three movements to help others, one global movement, one local movement, and one environmental movement.
The first of our efforts will be a program called “Adopt a Village”. This is a program that creates solutions and partnerships that take the sustainable approach to community development in third world countries. It provides youth with the chance to make a difference in the lives of children. There are four areas that the “Adopt a Village” program focuses on; Education, Alternative Income, Health Care, and Water & Sanitation. Our group has chose the area of Education. Free the Children’s focus is to make the goal of “education for all children” a living reality. “Education is the best way to empower people with the tools, knowledge, strength and confidence they need to promote and protect their own rights, growth and self-sufficiency. Education helps families, communities, and even entire nations breach the cycle of poverty.”
The Adopt a Village: Brick by Brick fundraising campaign helps support education in developing communities in third world countries. Together we will help build a school, build a library and provide the tools for children to receive a quality education. Our Social Justice Group will be running various fundraisers throughout the year to reach our goal of $4000.00. We will have a giant poster in our school in which we will color the bricks as we raise more and more money to build our school. We have chosen this program because we know the importance of education, and we want others to have the same opportunities that we have to get an education.
For our second movement we are planning a “Halloween for Hunger” campaign. Our group will dress up and go trick-or-treating, but instead of asking for candy, we will be asking for a donation of a non-perishable food item which we will in turn donate to the local food bank.
And last, but certainly not least, we would like to see Pierson School become more active on environmental issues. We already have a recycling program in place, and have plans for a composting program. Pierson School is working towards a greener future, and with our Social Justice Group at the helm, we can see the horizon.
Watch for posters and ads with our Pierson School Social Justice Group name “The Justice League“ on them, and please help us help others!
Together We Can Make a Difference!
