Spare Driving

Spare drivers must have a school bus driver's certificate.

Remuneration for spare driving shall be as follows:

A per diem daily rate shall be set for each route on an annual basis by the Operations Supervisor in consultation with the Secretary-Treasurer.

Pay may be requested for attending 8 hours of in service training each year.

All drivers will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses on excursion trips.

Expense claim forms must be submitted within 30 days of expenses being incurred.

Where spare buses have to be transported to another community,  and the garage staff is unavailable, spare drivers may be used at the discretion of the Operations Supervisor.

Requisitioning Spare Buses

Spare buses may be requisitioned on the following basis:

1.  A spare bus must be available at the time requested.
2.  A spare driver or regular driver with backup is available.
3.  Regular routes always have priority.  Thus spares must not be needed for a regular route.

The following regulations also apply:

-  For long excursion trips to be made in one day, the board will allow 2 drivers if requested by the driver and recommended by the Operations Supervisor.

-  Regular drivers may take excursion trips providing it does not interfere with their regular route.  If there is interference, drivers will not be paid for their regular route.  (Except for extreme circumstances as approved by the Operations Supervisor).

-  Bus drivers will not act as chaperones.
